A common problem among us Irish Crocheters (if you can call it a problem!) is having an abundance of white and ecru thread. Lori, one of our moderators over on the Ravelry Irish Crochet Lovers group, uses Sharpies to color her thread for an added artistic element. Genius! She has put together a little tutorial on her blog, and even has a video.

Just think of all the fun we can have with this!

interesting concept..I am a purist though, and while I like color, Irish Crochet worked in the Ecru or White, brings out the details and loveliness of the finished piece, and is more traditional. But I suppose a piece finished up this way, could add some dimension of colors. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
Very creative idea. I can think of several uses for it, not just for crochet pieces. Does the coloring fade or does it hold up well over time?
Love adding techniques to the tool box.
thanks for sharing!
It holds up well on items that are not washed too often.
